Chuc Thanh Pagoda is the oldest pagoda in Hoi An; it was founded in the 17th century by a Monk, whose family name was Luong, first name The An, religious name Minh Hai, pseudonym Phap Bao and who was born in the Fukian province. He was the 34th inheritor of Lam Te Order. The mixture of the traditional Vietnamese and Chinese architecture styles. The pagoda worships many big statutes which were carved and sculptured very elaborately and meticulously. Inside are several things for religious procedures and ceremonies including bronze bells. The Sanctuary worships three-generation Buddha, Maitreya Buddha and 18 arhats. In the yard is located the Statue Avalokitecvara Bodhisattva. Chuc Thanh Pagoda is the mastery pagoda of the “Thien Lam Te Chuc Thanh†Sect in the South of Vietnam.
Annually on the 6th and 7th of 11th lunar month, Chuc Thanh Pagoda organizes the celebration of the death anniversary of the Founder - Monk Minh Hai - the first monk of the Pagoda. On this anniversary, a big number of Buddhist monks, number of Buddhist monks, nuns and other Buddhist followers in the local areas and and in the southern provinces participate in the celebration to commemorate the Pagoda Founder.
The pagoda was restored in 1956 and 1964. This pagoda was granted the Certificate of National Historic Cultural Relic on 29th November 1991.
